22052703_1305010039610693_1538429953_nA Belizean delegation comprised of Attorney General, Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, Minister of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Anthony Martinez, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Immigration, Hon. Beverly Williams and Director of the Government of Belize Press Office, Dorian Pakeman travelled to the Republic of China in Taiwan on an official visit to further strengthen the longstanding partnership that exist between both parties.


On Sunday September 24th, the delegation met with the National Immigration Agency where issues involving immigration policy, border protection, and human trafficking were discussed. A courtesy call was made to the Embassy of Belize where the contingent met a group of Belizean students enrolled in universities in Taiwan.


The team also met with the Social and Family Affairs Administration in the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, and the Workforce Development Agency in the Ministry of Labour where matters including women’s rights, prosecution practices, and employment rates were lid on the table.


A courtesy visit was also made to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Taiwan, H.E. Su Jia-chyuan. Before heading back to Belize, the delegation will meet with representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Examination, and the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration. Hon. Beverly Williams will also have a further bilateral meeting with the National Immigration Agency to review a Memorandum of Understanding between Belize and Taiwan which was previously signed in 2014.


The visit is scheduled to conclude on Friday, September 29th, 2017.
