Tonight, almost one week after thirty seven year old businessman Amit Moryani was shot and killed in front of his business establishment during an armed robbery, authorities are yet to make an arrest in this case.

As we had previously reported Moryani was shot and killed on Cemetery Street after he attempted to defend his mother who was being robbed by armed assailants. Moryani was fatally shot once to the chest while his mother Babita Moryani was wounded to the left side of the head.

As previously indicated authorities are currently in search of two male individuals in connection with this homicide who are also believed to be involved with a group of criminals wanted for several armed robberies here in Orange Walk over the past month.

According to Police, while several individuals were detained for questioning, lack of evidence on the case has forced their release.

CowoASP Alejandro Cowo - Belize Police Department

“I know that several person have been detained, they have been questioned unfortunately they have been released from custody because there is no other information coming to the police but yes we have a group of guys that we are working on and looking at them who believe are the suspect and they have been brought in one by one and questioned but unfortunately we have to release them because we don’t have that evidence to charge them at this time.”

“Can you disclose if police have access to any security camera footage from that very incident?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo- Belize Police Department

“Yes police have viewed several footages in that area and that is what is assisting us in the investigation.”

Anyone with information that can assist in this case is kindly asked to contact the nearest police station.
