Political analysts believe that the results of the municipal elections will be a sort of barometer for the Barrow Administration and in particular the leadership of Prime Minister Barrow. Having won three terms since 2008, despite the many scandals that have plagued his administration, it is anticipated that the PM will be measuring the outcome and decide whether he still maintains the confidence of Belizeans. But today the PM shared his perspective with the media, indicating that the municipal election results won’t matter much to him, because he isn’t going to be around very soon.
Rt. Honourable Dean Barrow – Prime Minister of Belize
“I have to go as you know in time certainly in tie for the next General Elections and I have not made any secret of the fact that I must go early enough to allow my successor a chance to lead the party into the 2020 General Elections as Prime Minister and how much space that will require and when exactly I go is still a matter I have to agree with the party.”
