CourtsCorozal Police are searching for at least three suspects who planned and executed a daring robbery of the Courts Belize store employees and a customer in Corozal Town on Friday June 1st evening.

Around 4:15pm, two men barged into the Courts merchandise store located at the far south end of 5th Avenue, and threatened the employees with their firearms while demanding money. Reports are that one customer who was inside was assaulted during the robbery. This morning the Police provided an update on the case.

Wilfredo Ferrufino, Inspector

“The manager Mr. Manuel Pech, for Courts Belize at Corozal Branch indicated that at about 4pm whilst at the branch two male persons entered the establishment, one had a firearm and they demanded money proceeded to the cashier and from there they retrieved BZ$5739.00 currency property of Courts and there was a customer in the establishment as well and he was robbed of his jewelry, gold chain, wedding bang and a cellphone so that is the report that we got there wre two persons of interest and police are seeking those two individuals in regards to that matter.”

The store is equipped with security cameras but we understand that the robbers took the recording device with them.

While it was two persons who entered the store to rob, a third person waited for them inside an escape vehicle that was parked on a street nearby.

Following the robbery, Corozal Police officials conducted a search through possible escape routes. Their search led them to the San Pedro Village to Cristo Rey Village road, into a feeder road where they found this red in colour Mazda Tribute SUV left abandoned. The vehicle matched the one seen in footage obtained from video surveillance in the area.

We understand that the SUV had no license plates, but with the VIN number the owner has been identified and the person is being sought by the Police for questioning.
