noimageNews outlets in neighboring Chetumal are reporting that an additional three hundred members of the Mexican National Guards were recently deployed to the Belize/Mexico border. According to reports the increase in military presence comes in response to pressure from the United States government, led by President Donald Trump, for Mexico to slow migration flows into the US. US President, Donald Trump viewers may be aware, has been adamant in curbing the number of Central American immigrants who are trying to enter the US and has recently given the Mexican government an ultimatum to either beef up its security measures in blocking immigrants from flocking to the US border or the US will increase tariffs on Mexican exports into the US.

According to a publication made by the Mexican Newspaper, officials in that country have indicated that quote “the arrival of the 300 guards is meant as direct support for the National Institute of Migration to stop the flow of more Central Americans from illegally entering Mexico. The members of the National Guard were sent to the border as per an agreement made with the US to help curb the flow of migrants who cross through Mexico to reach the United States. In addition to personnel, surveillance has also been reinforced at border points such as the town of La Unión and the Chactemal and Subteniente López bridges. The move comes the same week as the announcement by the government of Mexico that all passengers using the ADO bus service will be required to produce identification before boarding.” End of quote.

Increased military presence are also reportedly being deployed to other areas including an additional 15,000 troops which were deployed to Mexico’s northern border shared with the US as well as over two thousand sent to its Southern border with Guatemala.
