Corozal Police are investigating two fatal traffic accidents that took place over the weekend. The first incident was registered on Saturday evening in Libertad Village. Police were called out to the Corozal Community Hospital where they found seventy year old Elizabeth Rodriguez still conscious and complaining of head and body pain. Officer Commanding the Corozal Formation, Denis Arnold told us what police have gathered in their investigation.

“While Jomar Hercules was reversing a vehicle he did knock her down.”

Rodriguez, whose family also referred to as Romelia Chi, reportedly passed away at around three on Sunday morning. We visited her family at Libertad Village but they preferred to speak to us off camera. The family tells that the senior woman left her home located on Jerusalem Street in the village and apparently was headed to the shop. She stepped out of her home around 6:30 Saturday evening and not more than about a hundred yards away she was hit by Jomar Hercules as he reversed on the street. The family says that the vehicle, an Xterra, ran over the woman twice on the right side of her body.  The family adds that she sustained three broken ribs, bruises on her leg and abrasions on her right elbow. A neighbor rushed her to the Corozal Hospital after which she needed to be transported to the Northern Regional Hospital. That service however, was unavailable at the time since the family had to wait for the ambulance to return from a trip and Rodriguez was eventually transported around eleven in the night. Police say that Hercules is in custody.

I believe that he be charged for, well you know that he didn’t had a valid driver’s license, so he will charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, careless conduct, negligence also.”

Rodriguez’s body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital morgue for a post mortem examination today.
