Further in the North, Corozalenos put up with the heat of the sun as they wore their blue and white t-shirts in support to the People’s United Party and their four Standard Bearers. We first take a look at how nomination day went for P.U.P Standard Bearer for Corozal North Valdemar Castillo and P.U.P Standard bearer for Corozal Bay Gregorio Papas Garcia. Reporter Hipolito Novelo and Cameraman Kenric Simpson filed the following report.

Party supporters were definitely not afraid to express their support for Corozal North P.U.P Standard Bearer Valdemar Castillo. As the seasoned politician, along with voters of Corozal North, marched towards the Corozal Community College, where he would be officially nominated, the blue and white flags waved in the air.
At CCC Castillo, as is required by the law, was nominated by six registered voters. And after the process was completed Castillo walked out of the CCC building where he was greeted with the ever famous P.U.P all the way.
Just as his supporters Castillo was excited about his nomination.

“I have just being nominated to be the official candidate for the People’s United Party for Corozal North this means that we have accelerate the campaign until Election Day but we have already started campaign we have been going house to house, visiting the people in the almost all the communities in the North division and the response is very good, there is no doubt that they want the People’s United Party back, especially that we are discussing with them the way forward.”

Valdemar Castillo, Corozal North PUP Standard Bearer
“We need to continue the house visit, we still have some communities to visit, we are going to have a few public meeting to discuss our manifesto and plans of works and then we are going to continue discussing the way forward, the programs that we have in mind, we are going to focus on reactivating the economy of the area and creating jobs especially for our young people. Wherever we go visiting house to house the cry is jobs, jobs, jobs and more jobs and there is no doubt that we need to look at the Free Zone and reactivate the Free Zone to create jobs, we need to look at something new to create jobs, we need to look in tourism this will help the Free Zone and also create jobs.”
And while Castillo and his crowd marched back to the San Andres Community Centre, where a small rally was held, in the heart of Corozal Town, Gregorio “Papas” Garcia, backed up by a throng of supporters, was on his way to the Corozal Magistrates Court where he would be officially nominated.
Papas, inspired by the people, walked humbly into the Corozal Magistrate Court, signed the necessary documents after being nominated by six registered voters, and then walked out of the court as the official Standard Bearer for Corozal Bay.

“So what is the next step for Papas?”
Gregorio “Papas” Garcia, Corozal Bay PUP Standard Bearer

“The UDP supporters will say that the PUP this morning had a small crowd they won’t win the elections?”
Gregorio “Papas” Garcia, Corozal Bay PUP Standard Bearer
“No, no it is not about the size of the crowd it is about the elements that you have in that crowd and we have people here that have never shown themselves to a political party and I think it is time for change and they are out there representing that change that will happen.”
Florencio Marin Jr. was also officially nominated this morning as the PUP Standard Bearer for Corozal South East. His nomination took place at the San Joaquin Roman Catholic School. As Marin and his supporters marched into the village of San Joaquin, which is considered to be of his strongholds, the highway was decorated with the party’s blue and white flag.
After he was officially nominated Marin told us he is confident that Corozal South East will once again go blue.

“Should you win what are your plans?”
Florencio Marin Jr., PUP Standard bearer
“When we win the first thing we are going to focus on is the economy because right now we have an economy that is paralyzed an there is no jobs and why we need to move this economy is so that we begin to have jobs for the young people. Jobs, jobs, jobs is the priority for the next PUP government.”
Not far away, in the village of Libertad, P.U.P Standard Bearer for Corozal South West Ramiro Ramirez was officially nominated at the Libertad Methodist School. His parade started at the entrance of Libertad and just as the other Standard Bearers Ramirez was also accompanied by a throng of supporters.
Ramiro Ramirez, PUP Standard Bearer
Of note is that on Sunday February 19th the P.U.P will hold a massive rally in Corozal.
