With over 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries, Rotary International has been able to reach out to people across the globe assisting them in various ways and forms; from contribution for polio eradication to scholarships and emergency aid. In Orange Walk, the Rotary Club has for many years been accomplishing their goal which is to, “Serve the Community”. And this past Saturday the club continued assisting the community as they donated 18 wheel chairs to disabled residents of Orange Walk Town.
John Avila, President Rotary Belize
“These wheel chairs are just regular plastic chair that have been adopted to fit on the wheel chair, it is suppose to be much more economic to assemble and it’s what is being sent there are different other wheel chairs but these ones for some reason have been chosen t be sent on this way, they are not foldable you cannot fold them but it look a little bit stronger and sturdy so hopefully they will last a while.”

“What makes someone eligible to obtain a wheel-chair from Rotary?”
John Avila, President Rotary Belize
“Whatever disability that the person may have, as long as they require a wheel-chair then we facilitate as long as we have in stock.”
Omario Baeza was one of the 18 people who receive a wheel chair. Some months ago he suffered an accident and since then has been having trouble moving around. But thanks to the Rotary Club of Orange Walk, Baeza says he will now be able to move around.
