Yesterday you heard about Vicente Chuc, a resident of Trail Farm who told P.U.P Orange Walk North Standard Bearer Jorge Briceno that his land is being taken away by the government. Seventy year old Vicente Chuc, who is a born Belizean, claims that he has being paying for his parcel of land located in the Area of Black Water Creek since 1977 and now it is being taken away. Here is what Chuc told us today.

Seventy year old Vicente Chuc was born in the small village of Columbia located in Southern Belize. More than 50 years ago he relocated to the Orange Walk District.
But today the elderly man is frustrated because according to him, the Government of the day is taking away his land which he has been paying for since 1977.
Vicente Chuc, wants land back
“35 anos que estoy pagando y no me gusta la persona que lo quita el tal Mr. Vega. El gobierno, les gusta el gobierno que está quitando el terreno a la gente o no, pues el gobierno entra con una cosa, vive legalmente con su gente pero así no esté bien y quiere sembrar maíz, cana en mi terreno.”
This is the parcel of land that Chuc is talking about. The 30 acres of land was awarded to him approximately 35 years ago. Documents show that ever since he obtained the acres of land, Chuc has been making yearly rent payments of $14.50. The last time Chuc made payment was in January of last year. But according to him, when he visited the Lands Department here in Orange Walk there months ago, his payment was refused.
Chuc’s close friend, 42 year old Oscar Perez, told us that government is just being out rightly unjust and that the acres of land should be returned to their rightful owner.

“Pues que le den el papel porque es algo injusto que esta hacienda el gobierno.”
As you can observe in this footage someone is already constructing a building on the parcel of land which Chuc has been taking care of for the past years.

“Está construyendo una casa allí y entonces por eso nosotros no podemos ir a trabajar allá, porque si él está construyendo allá es porque son ordenes del gobierno que vaya haya, viste ah.”
According to Chuc, this is not the first parcel of land that has been taken away from him by this present Government. Chuc told us today that with the assistance of Orange Walk P.U.P North Standard Bearer Jorge Briceno he has been able to obtain legal advice.
