During his press conference yesterday Marcel Cardona lashed out at the Dean Barrow Administration like never before. Apart from saying that the U.D.P is corrupt and backing up his statement by listing out a number of cases where corruption and nepotism was involved, Cardona also publicly announced his distaste for UDP Orange Walk East Standard Bearer Orlando Burns and his full support for PUP Orange Walk East Standard Bearer Doctor Marco Tulio Mendez.

“At the same time I have been asked by the committee to indicate that even though I shall not be contesting the upcoming elections, by no means does this mean that the committee shall remain passive during the elections in fact the committee has voted on and has agreed that considering the two candidates in the east it shall be endorsing and shall be campaigning for and supporting the P.U.P Orange Walk East Candidate Doctor Marco Tulio Mendez. I further more wish to announce that as for me my support cannot be for any Landy Burns in Orange Walk it will defiantly be for Doctor Marco Tulio Mendez in Orange Walk.”

The announcement surely must have caused Burns to pull his hair out. But Doctor Mendez, on the other hand, welcomed the support. Today we caught up with Mendez while on the campaign trail in the Village of Carmelita and asked him what he thought about Cardona’s endorsement.

“I am very grateful to the honorable Marcel Cardona, I respect him a lot, I know he has been fighting for the basic needs of our people and what he pointed out yesterday was some of the UDP behavior, the corruption that is within the UDP, the nepotism that is within the UDP, how vindictive they are and of course the incompetence that they have, so he did really stated what UDP Stand for.”

According to Mendez the Dean Barrow Administration did not only oust Cardona from their party, most importantly they neglected the people of Orange Walk East because of their personal vendetta against the East Area Representative.

“The people of Orange Walk East know that they were punished, that they were basically targeted so that they could turn their back on him, it was not that they punished Marcel Cardona, they punished the people, the people are the ones that suffered, they suffered a direct collateral effect politically and that I know that they will respond on March 7^th.”

“Marcel Cardona, I think that he is a man of how he could clearly have a vision of the entirely Orange Walk East and not that he is trying to go against him but he is trying to see that choose the most appropriate man that really has a heart to look after the issues of the people.”

But Marcel Cardona is not the only elected official and U.D.P supporter to be ignored by this present Government. Vice Chairman of Carmelita Village, Israel Rodas, was elected twice into office under a UDP slate. But today he told us he is ready for change and will vote for a party that holds no grudge and has the interest of the people at heart.

“Es que yo quiero trabajar con mi gente y no me lo permiten desde que Marcel Cardona lo sacaron y todas las ayudas me las quitaron y me sacaron a fuera y la persona que esta como representando el Este me saco a un lado, Marcel Cardona dijo de voy hacer el chairman del waterboard y cuando llevamos los papeles Campos dijo de que un extranjero no puede estar en un puesto de gobierno y entonces si no me toman en cuenta ellos para que yo voy a estar con ellos, yo quiero trabajar con una persona dinámica, yo quiero luchar para mi aldea y Landy Burns no ha hecho nada para esta aldea todo lo que se hizo fue con Marcel Cardona, se hicieron dos topes en el highway Marcel Cardona, dos en la escuela para los niños Marcel lo puso, dicen pusieron 3.7 millas de carretera en Carmelita Marcel Cardona puso toda la maquinaria, el estaba peleando para poner luces pero no fue posible y pues hoy estoy ayudando al doctor para ver si podemos hacer algo para trabajar juntos porque yo quiero un bienestar para mi aldea, para mis hijos y para mi gente también.  Cuando vamos a juntas me ignoran y le pregunto a todos y me dejan a lado y yo me siento mal entonces yo quiero una persona que trabajemos y luchemos para el bienestar de la gente no solo para mi si no para mi gente.  Bajo el mandato del yo cori el 2007 al 2010 me volvieron a elegir 2010 al 2013 y todo ese tiempo solo con Marcel hemos trabajado y ahora que lo sacaron a él a quien le voy a pedir, fui dos veces a Belmopán para que súbemelos los terrenos y si, si dijo pero nunca mando a nadie me ignoran cada vez que voy haya me ignoran entonces yo no puedo trabajar así y yo quiero una persona como doctor Méndez que también ha hecho bastante para Carmelita y él es el único que ha puesto luces aquí nadie más.”
